Thank you for coming in for your MP2 appointment today.
During or immediately after the treatment, certain side effects and responses may occur. Although these effects are expected and transient, any adverse reaction should be immediately reported to the clinic.
Expected clinical effects and possible side effects may include:
• Mild discomfort may be associated with the treatment, during or post treatment
• Heat sensation will be felt both during and following the treatment
• Transient excessive skin redness (erythema) and/or swelling may occur
• Erythema may be present in the treated area for up to two hours post procedure
Activity:
Post-treatment redness is mild, and you may return to regular activities immediately. You may experience mild heat emanating from the treated area. This is a normal part of the body’s natural healing response.
Moisturizer:
Moisturizer should be applied regularly throughout the course of your treatment series, and it may be applied immediately after each treatment.
Make-Up:
Make-up can be applied immediately after each treatment. Do not sleep with makeup on the treated area. It is important to remove all make-up that is applied to the skin at night.
Avoiding the Sun:
Avoiding direct sun should become a permanent component of your long-term skin care program. Always use a broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 or greater, even on cloudy days, regardless of season.
Long-Term Skin Care:
In addition to avoiding direct sun exposure, we suggest all clients use long-term skin care that prioritizes the youthful, rejuvenated appearance you have achieved. We offer clients a program for long-term facial skin maintenance. This unique program offers state-of-the-art skin maintaining and rejuvenating creams that are only available and administered by our medical team.
Home Regime:
To enhance the results of the treatments, we recommend that you maintain a healthy and active lifestyle. Gaining weight during your treatment series could compromise your end results.
Thank you for coming in for your Fractional RF Skin Resurfacing appointment today.
POST-PROCEDURAL CARE - DAY 1 TO 5
The healing time for any given treatment varies between different clients. The following represents the general recovery phases you might expect. Individual clients may experience variations from this course. Immediate responses and possible side effects may include:
• Discomfort or pain during or post treatment (itching may occur during healing)
• Excessive skin redness (erythema) and/or swelling (edema)
• In-grown hairs
• Damage to natural skin texture (burn, blister, crust or pustules)
• Change in pigmentation (hyper- and hypo-pigmentation)
• Scarring
• Potential heat damage of hair follicles in the treatment area (i.e. the male facial hair )
Swelling/Discomfort/Redness:
Significant swelling and redness of the treated areas and untreated parts may occur following your procedure, and will be maximal at 24 - 48 hours. To minimize swelling, keep your head elevated. It is not uncommon for clients to experience under-eye swelling for the first 1 to 2 days, but this swelling will subside. There will be redness and slight heat emanating from the treated area for the first 24 hours, akin to a mild sunburn. It is unusual to experience severe or excessive
pain; you should notify us if this occurs. Tiny scabs will usually be formed 24 - 72 hours post-treatment, and may remain for several days. The scabs should not be touched or scratched even if they itch, and should be allowed to shed off naturally.
Activity:
Some mild discomfort may occasionally follow resurfacing treatment. You may return to regular activities immediately. It is advised that you avoid hot baths, saunas, Jacuzzis, and pools for the first two days following treatment. The skin should be kept clean to avoid contamination or infection. Any mechanical or thermal damage to the area must be avoided. Some minor heat emanating from the treated area is normal. Post-treatment cooling is not necessary and should not be used under regular skin responses.
Moisturizer:
Post-treatment care, including applying of moisturizers or supporting creams on the treated skin, is at the Physician’s discretion.
Make-Up:
After 24 hours, most resurfacing clients are ready for makeup to hide the pinkness of the skin. If applied, it is important that you remove all makeup from the skin at night. Do not sleep with make up on the treated area.
Avoiding the Sun:
Avoiding direct sun should become a permanent component of your long-term skin care program. Starting 24-48 hours post-treatment, pending skin recovery, you should use a high-factor sunscreen (at least 30 SPF) and protect the treated area from sunlight for at least one month after the treatment. Tanning of any sort (sun exposure, tanning beds, and artificial sunless tanning lotions) is not allowed in the treated areas during the entire course of the treatment. Tanning after treatment may cause hyperpigmentation.
Long-Term Skin Care:
In addition to avoiding direct sun exposure, we suggest all clients use long-term skin care that will optimize the youthful, rejuvenated appearance you have achieved. We offer clients a program for long-term facial skin maintenance This unique program offers state-of-the-art skin maintaining and rejuvenating creams that are only available and administered by our medical team.
Thank you for coming in for your IPL appointment today.
Pigment IPL Treatments:
Browning or darkening of the skin pigment, and purplish or black tints to a dark pigment, as well as crusting of the pigmented area over a few days, may all occur as part of normal post-treatment healing. Crusting will flake off, and while erythema and edema may also appear, these symptoms will resolve in 3 to 7 days.
Vascular Lesion IPL Treatments:
Blanching, greying, or a deep purple tinting or blackening of the vessel may occur over the course of a few days as the damaged tissue will be broken down and absorbed. This may last approximately 3 to 7 days.
Acne IPL Treatments:
A deepening in color of the treated lesions, tenderness to the lesions (if cystic), blanching/greying of vessels/vascular scars, and intense edema and erythema may occur, lasting 5 to 10 days.
Swelling/Discomfort/Redness:
Significant swelling and redness may occur following your procedure for up to 24 – 48 hours. It is not uncommon for patients to experience swelling in the under-eye area for the first 1 to 2 days post-treatment. This swelling will subside. You may also experience some redness and slight warmth emanating from the treatment area for the first 24 hours post-treatment, akin to a mild sunburn. This is a normal part of your skin’s post-treatment healing response. However, excessive or severe pain is unusual; if this occurs, immediately notify the clinic.
IPL side effects may include:
• Discomfort or pain during treatment
• Excessive skin redness (erythema) and/or swelling (edema)
• Damage to natural skin texture (crust, blister, burn)
• Change in pigmentation (hyper – and hypo-pigmentation
• Scarring
• Occasionally paradoxical hair growth (IPL hair removal treatment)
• Potential heat damage of hair follicles in the treatment area (i.e. the male facial hair )
Activity:
Post-treatment discomfort is mild, and you may immediately return to your regular activities. It is advised that you avoid hot baths, saunas, Jacuzzis, and pools for the first 2 days following treatment, as bacteria found in these environments could cause an infection. It is best to avoid applying ice or cooling compresses to the treated area, as the heat emanating from the skin is the body’s natural healing response. However, if you are experiencing extreme heat or discomfort, you may use cold compresses to soothe the area.
Moisturizer:
Moisturizer may be applied 24 hours after each treatment. Moisturizer should then be applied regularly throughout the course of your treatment program.
Make-Up:
After 24 hours, most patients are able to apply makeup to hide the pinkness of the skin. It is important that you remove all makeup that is applied to the skin at night. Do not sleep with makeup on the treated area.
